Arlene and I haven’t been out much since my bicycle crash at the beginning of June so I’m writing up this quick trip to Seattle today.
We left the house a couple of minutes before 11am to catch the 11:25am ferry. We were successful. Our first stop was a few blocks north (the wrong direction) to Fonte on 1st across the street from SAM. They consistenly have some great coffee. Today it seemed like they were short-handed and we waited for 5 minutes to place our order… so what. We ordered a 12 oz. latte for Arlene and an 8 oz. breve for me. Good stuff.
The Mariners
We walked to whatever Safeco is now called. We walked through the detectors and didn’t have to take our phone or keys out of our pockets. I scanned my phone twice to get us both in and the woman who was helping us said, “Huzzah!” (It’s a word that, as far as I can discern, has no particular relevance in either literature or religion.) Our seats were in the front row of section 339 where it’s impossible to call balls and strikes but we can usually tell if the ball is going foul or into home run territory by watching the fielders.
Logan Gilbert started by striking out 6 of the first 7, then gave up three runs over two innings while the offense was doin’ nothin’. Then the Mariners got a run in in the 7th and still had 2 on. Julio hit a line drive home run over the left field wall giving the Mariners a lead of 4 to 3.
In the top of the 9th the Rangers had runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs and Munoz tossed a pitch that was grounded to 2nd. The 2nd baseman, Cole Young, grabbed it and ran to 2nd for the force but it wasn’t clear so he also made the throw to 1st, which also wasn’t clear. Of course if the Mariners don’t get at least one of those outs, then the guy who started at 2nd would have scored and the game would have been tied. The play was reviewed and it was ruled that Young got the force at 2nd. Game over. Given that the Mariners have had a disappointing season and that their offense was stagnant for the first 6 innings, the result was a happy surprise.
Purple
After the game we walked to Purple on 4th and University. We stopped on the east side of the street to look at the dresses.
At the restaurant I had a 2018 Tempranillo from Spain and Arlene had a 2024 Domaine Notre Dame des Pallieres from the Gigondas appelation and I know the appelation because we had the 2023 a couple of weeks ago at home. We ordered Spicy Prawns and Frites (which we get every time) and then entrees, King Salmon and Risotto with Mushrooms. The food was good although we probably didn’t need to order the entrees.

We were done at the restaurant by about 5:30 and realized that the ferry was late so we walked quickly to Coleman Dock, waited only a few minutes at the terminal and were home by 7.
