First Full Day in Juneau

Since we got in so late we spent the first half of the day unpacking and re-organizing after 3 days of living out of the suitcase. In those 3 days we had been unable to refreeze the ice in the cooler so we were a little worried about the milk and eggs, but they were fine. This AirBnB has some privacy and a nice spot to set up the erg. It even has a dresser where we can put our clothes and running water and decent internet. Five stars. Oh, there are some treacherous stairs up to the lofty area that is also the bedroom. So maybe only four stars.

A popular tourist attraction in Juneau is the Mendenhall Glacier; all of the cruise lines drive busloads of people out to see it. There are a few short paved paths with good views but when Arlene and I were there, there were so, so many people. We chose a different hike called the East Glacier Loop Trail. The trail featured a great view of a small waterfall, an obstructed view of a large waterfall, some neat areas of forest and a couple of very cool sets of stairs.

Here is Arlene taking a picture of a steep hill with a uniformity of vegetation:

And one of the cool sets of stairs:

And the small waterfall:

We skipped the easy paved paths with the plan of returning early some morning.
