Healy Overlook Trail
After breakfast and erging we took on the Healy Overlook Trail again. (See https://traveljournal.cakewood.org/2025/06/19/little-dudes/) The first time we were still breaking in our hiking legs and the descent was a little difficult so today was a fun little experiment. We climbed up a bit farther on the un-maintained trail than last time perhaps even breaking the rule about hiking on scree at too much of a grade. We didn’t go all the way to the top of Mount Healy since the path looked a little too sketchy.
Here is the last usie from the high places around Denali and notice some of the clouds. Alaska has the craziest clouds.

At our turn-around point we had lunch; peanut butter and jelly is great during a hike. As we were preparing to return we saw this guy:

He was not interested in checking for extra food and disappeared as soon as we started walking. I also tried getting some pictures of butterflies. Here is one of those:

I have another butterfly picture but Arlene liked this one because it also has flowers.
The descent was far easier than last time. I guess 10 or 12 days of hiking is all it takes to get the legs back on track.
Back At The Cabin
When we returned to the cabin we spent time packing up, planning a single bag for the weekend and moving things to the car. While we were doing that we noticed these two out the window. (I had to run to the car to get the camera (as opposed to a phone) and figured they were far enough away that they wouldn’t find me threatening.)

Baby moose doesn’t recognize a photo op when it sees one.
We are packed up and ready to say goodbye to Denali.
