Coffee
After checking out of the motel we went for coffee at Blue Moose in Hope. In the display case were many tasty-looking baked items such as a spinach feta thingy with a nice checkered pattern and Arlene had her eye on a fruity scone of some sort. We’d already had breakfast so we didn’t discover if any of the tasty-looking items were tasty.
Arlene ordered a 12 oz latte and I ordered an 8 oz breve which the person didn’t understand. I described it as a latte made with half-n-half and she said, “oh, a flat white.” At the time I didn’t recognize the term, but since then I’ve remembered that a guy at Deadstock in Portland, OR also called it a “flat white.” Anyway, I also asked to have my big stainless steel travel cup filled with brewed coffee; it must be about 20 oz. The bill came to about $12.50. That seemed low. I explained to the woman that I thought we might have been undercharged, then she showed me the receipt and explained it to me and apologized.
7 hours, activities in the car
The trip from Hope to Prince George was about 7 hours of driving time. Arlene and I have decided to rank all of the songs by the band R.E.M. We move from album to album chronologically assigning each song to a quintile. Arlene is tracking this all by managing a set of 10 playlists–5 for her quintile selection and 5 for mine. So far we’ve gone through Murmur, Reconing, Fables of the Reconstruction, Life’s Rich Pagent, Document and Green. Our biggest discrepancy so far the is the song Swan, Swan, Hummingbird which I put in my 1st quintile; Arlene put it in her 4th. So far we’re not really paying any attention to how many go into each quintile. After all of the songs have been sorted, we’ll begin the second part of the project which is called The Great Reconcilliation.
We’ve also decided to listen to no more than 3 R.E.M. albums per day. Today we filled out the listening schedule with Les Miserables and two different set of the Liszt Hungarian Rhapsodies.
Midday break
At about 1:30 we stopped at Scout Island in Williams Lake, B.C. It is a park and nature sancuary. We walked around for an hour and looked at birds. I had a Canon SLR with a 250 mm lens. The lens is not horrible, but it still requires extreme proximity, meaning, usually so close that the poor little birds would rather leave. But I took a nice picture of this European Starling who was quite clear that Arlene and I should be the ones who leave.

Usie of the day
This is from the south end of the island overlooking the lake.

Prince George
We’re staying in an Econolodge. Kind of weird room, but only for one night. Shorter drive tomorrow, to Smithers.
Perhaps Out Of Time, Automatic for the People and Monster.

Cool soundtrack! I would also put Swan Swan H in the first quintile of R.E.M. songs.
That‘s one opinionated looking bird you have photographed there.
I put that song in my first quintile. Mom put it in the 4th.
We are enjoying your travel blog. What an exciting adventure! Wish we were there.
We’ve enjoyed the Blue Moose on a number of trips northward. Glad you found it (since it’s off the main road through).
